Informatie

This project aims at developing a sensor for fast and continuous detection of bacteria in drinking water. The goal is to rapidly bring this project to a commercial application in

A position is available at the Laboratory of Microengineering for Manufacturing (LPM) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.

Project

This project aims at developing a sensor for fast and continuous detection of bacteria in drinking water. The goal is to rapidly bring this project to a commercial application in a start-up to be created in 2013.

Job description

The candidate will be responsible for realizing several subsystems of our innovative bacteria sensor. The range of subsystems to be developed is very broad: it includes microcontroller boards, FPGA boards for signal processing, low-noise analog amplifiers, but also mechanical parts for the microfluidic system and for the optical modules. The candidate will have to interact with specialists in bio-chemistry, optics, micro-fluidics and electronics. This position offers an excellent opportunity to play an important role in developing and implementing innovative and exciting applications in the drinking water analysis domain.

Candidate

We are looking for a candidate that:
  • has an innovative mind and is highly motivated to participate to the development of a start-up
  • is a self-starter, hands-on person capable of quickly realizing prototypes (electronics, mechanical constructions, etc.)
  • has ideally a few years of industrial experience

The candidate must have the following technical profile:
  • MSc/BSc degree (EPF, HES or equivalent) in microengineering, electronics or equivalent
  • Experience in PCB design (Altium)
  • Experience with CAD programs (Solidworks) and mechanical design
  • Programming skills (Microcontroller or FPGA programming)
  • Experience with optical systems and/or micro-fluidics would be an advantage
  • Fluency in French and English
  • Valid Swiss work permit
We offer excellent working conditions in a state-of-the-art research infrastructure and a dynamic team that focuses on highly innovative solutions with a commercial potential.

Contract duration
1 year standard EPFL contract, with possibility to continue in the start-up.

The position is available immediately.
