Two examples of departments within R&D are:
The Skin Category on the Packaging Department has an ambitious growth agenda, and strong brands such as Dove, Dove for Men, Axe, Vaseline, Duschdas, Radox, Zwitsal and Pond’s. Unilever Spreads Development Centre in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands, is responsible for product development of spreads and cooking products for global projects within this key strategic Unilever category. Our core product range includes high- and low-fat spreads, as well as cooking liquids, wrappers and creams. Key brands of the category are Becel, Flora, Rama, Blue Band, Bertolli, Country Crock, etc. Application of our products are in the area of Spreading, Cooking and Baking.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- help in any of the above mentioned activities under supervision Packaging
- analyze existing packaging (Unilever or Competitor);
- perform validations of packaging components on the packlab;
- write packaging specifications;
- contribute in any way to packaging related strategic projects such as sustainability for example.
- study the influence of ingredients on the stability and taste keep ability of new product designs. Spreads Development Centre:
- study the behavior of ingredients (e.g. starch) during processing;
- study the effect of dosing order of ingredients;
- study the effect of different process conditions;
- set-up test protocols for the various product applications;
- measurement and evaluation of crystallization kinetics of fats. Please note that the responsibilities mentioned below are applicable for the department that relates best to your studies.
Requirements
- Education level HBO or WO (3rd or 4th year): Industrial design Engineering or product development, packaging engineering, material technology
- Duration of internship: Approximately 6-9 months; can be discussed
- Start date: preferably January/February 2013
- Fluency in English is required and basic knowledge of the Dutch language will be an advantage.
