RESEARCH & INNOVATION DIRECTOR
CLEPA ( www.clepa.eu ) is the European Association of Automotive Suppliers which acts as the voice of the automotive supply industry in Europe. No less than 113 of the world's most prominent suppliers for car parts, systems and modules and 24 National trade associations and European sector associations are members of CLEPA. They represent an industry with an annual turnover of 600 billion Euros, with more than 3,000 companies, employing more than 5 million people and covering all products and services within the automotive supply chain. Founded in 1959 and based in Brussels, CLEPA is recognized as the natural discussion partner by the European Institutions, United Nations and fellow associations (ACEA, JAMA, MEMA and others).
CLEPA and its members play a key role in innovating and adapting the automotive industry to meet global societal challenges while strengthening competitiveness through technological development, research and innovation. In this context CLEPA is searching for a Research & Innovation Director (m/f):

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:
As Research & Innovation Director you have the overall responsibility for the CLEPA R&I Work Group. This WG’s purpose is to understand the particular challenges facing the automotive supply industry and improve the recognition and rewards for the automotive suppliers’ contribution to the vehicle manufacturers’ products. You report to the CEO of CLEPA. Your main tasks can be described as follows:
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Research and Innovation (R&I) Working Group and Task Force meetings as well as the creation of CLEPA position papers, Strategic Research Agendas (SRA), technology roadmaps and annual implantation plans on collaborative public funded EU research.
  • Lobby the European Commission and the Parliament to obtain budget grants for identified collaborative public-funded EU research projects for CLEPA members.
  • Provide information on open calls for proposals, draft working programs, political framework conditions.
  • Identify interesting call topics for collaborative public-funded EU research projects amongst CLEPA members as well as strategic Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) topics where CLEPA should play a role and draft the proposal.
  • To act as the interface with the European Commission on collaborative research for our member companies and as the CLEPA contact person in liaison with other research associations such as EUCAR, EARPA, ERTICO, etc.
  • Represent CLEPA in European Technology Platforms (ETP) such as ERTRAC, iMobility Forum, etc.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:
For this challenging and versatile function we will only consider candidates who have at least 10 years of proven track record in automotive research within the automotive industry or at a research and technology organization. Good candidates should furthermore fulfill following additional requirements:
  • Hold a Masters’ degree in engineering, technology or similar.
  • General experience and knowledge on European Technology Platforms relevant for the automotive industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience on managing European funded research projects and a good knowledge of European Institutions and their processes.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with English being the common language. Knowledge of additional European languages (e.g. German, French) is an asset.
  • Be a self-motivated team player with a great sense of taking initiative, operating within a small team of dedicated CLEPA professionals.
  • Live in or be willing to move to Brussels.
